Awardee: Nand Kishore VrC
Citation
On 11 October 1965, the enemy overran one of our platoon localities on a feature of tactical importance. Subedar Nand Kishore, who was the senior JCO of his company, led a counter-attack, which was partially successful. He was wounded and evacuated to the Regimental Aid Centre. Soon, however, he rejoined his company, borrowed a pistol from one of the wounded signallers and rallied his men together. He fired two rockets at an enemy Browning machine gun and a bren LMG which were holding up the assault and destroyed the latter and its crew. Then pistol in hand, he led a charge on the enemy position. Soon afterwards he was hit in the head and chest and killed.
Subedar Nand Kishore displayed courage, leadership and initiative in the best traditions of the Army.
