Vir Chakra (VrC)

On 13 December 1971, Subedar R. Krishnan Nair was commanding a platoon of a   battalion, which was given the task of capturing an enemy position in the Khulna Sector. The enemy brought down heavy and effective artillery and automatic weapons fire on his platoon which was in the lead. Unmindful of his safety, he kept inspiring his men to press on with the attack. While still away from the objective, he was injured by bullet in the left arm but this did not slow him down. When about 150 yards short of the objective he was again wounded by a shell splinter as a result of which he died.

In this action, Subedar Nair displayed gallantry, leadership, and devotion to duty of a high order.
