Vir Chakra (VrC)

Balkrishna Ramchandra Naik was the battery commander with an infantry battalion which was assigned the task of capturing an enemy post in the Eastern Sector. As the battalion was forming up for the attack, the enemy brought down accurate artillery fire and opened up with heavy machine guns from close range inflicting heavy casualties on our troops.

Undeterred and unmindful of his own safety, Captain Naik moved forward to a vantage point, located two heavy machine gun posts and brought down effective artillery fire on the enemy, thus enabling the assaulting troops to capture the objective.

In this action, Captain Naik displayed gallantry, professional skill and devotion to duty of a high order.
