Citation
Captain Murty Durendra Naidu was the forward observation officer with a leading company of a battalion of Parachute Regiment, which attacked an enemy feature in Jammu and Kashmir on 26 August 1965. When the leading companies came under heavy enemy MMG fire and it became difficult for our troops to advance, Captain Naidu exposed himself to heavy enemy shelling and MMG fire and occupied a suitable position from where he directed accurate artillery fire at the enemy. During the encounter, when wounded, he refused to be evacuated and continued firing for about three hours till he fell unconscious. His bold action enabled the infantry to repulse successive enemy counter attacks.
Throughout, Captain Naidu displayed courage, determination and devotion to duty in the best traditions of the Army.
