Vir Chakra (VrC)

Naik Naib Singh was in a defended locality in the Western Sector. On the night of 3 December 1971, the enemy launched an attack in strength on his post. Naik Naib Singh enthused his men and directed their fire. When his own ammunition was exhausted, he resorted to hand-to-hand fighting and lulled an enemy soldier with his bayonet. In the encounter he received serious injuries as a result of which he died.

In this action, Naik Naib Singh displayed cool courage and determination of a high order.
