Citation

On 15 March 1948, 3 (Para) Maratha while attacking Pirthil Naka Hill, suffered heavy casualties, most of whom were lying on very exposed grounds. Captain Tajendra Kumar Moitra, the battalion medical officer, completely disregarding his personal safety, moved forward at the crawl with his medical equipment over the exposed ground and reached the forward platoon areas where the casualties were lying. He himself dragged four wounded into a ditch and gave them first aid. The remaining casualties were also dressed and evacuated later. Due to his bravery and calmness under heavy enemy fire, Captain Moitra saved the life of many a gallant soldiers lying helpless and bleeding severely.

His action was an inspiration to all who saw him and instilled confidence in the men.
