Vir Chakra (VrC)

Gunner S Pakkir Mohammed was signaller in the observation party at Cho La on 1 October 1967 when due to sudden heavy fire by the Chinese the observation post line got cut and the signal NCO was hit by enemy mortar fire. Gunner S Pakkir Mohammed immediately jumped out of his trench and rushed forward to his comrade and removed him to safety. Thereafter he restored the communication. When the line was again cut he again jumped out of the trench and repaired the line, this time the radio-set and telephones had been blown up by a direct hit. He, however, maintained the single telephone line which was repeatedly being cut by Chinese mortar fire.
