Citation

On 16 June 1948, a company of 6 Raputana Rifles attacked a high hill feature southwest of Uri on which the enemy had fortified and well-dug positions. Jemadar Megh Singh, with complete disregard for his personal safety, dashed forward through the fire-swept area. Inspired by their courageous leader his men dashed forward to bayonet the enemy in sharp, spirited action. Despite heavy casualties, Jemadar Megh Singh kept up the morale ofhis men and launched further attacks. The enemy was completely demoralised and ran away, leaving arms and ammunition behind.

The determined leadership and personal courage of Jemadar Megh Singh was solely responsible for conclusion of a successful attack against a heavily entrenched and well-equipped enemy.
