Citation

On 13 October 1948, 'A' company of 1 Sikh was subjected to a very heavy attack by the enemy. Its line of communications were completely disrupted by the enemy. The firing was so intense that it was not possible to send the linemen up on the telephone wires damaged by the enemy. Realising the importance of communication at this difficult hour, Sepoy Maghar Singh, in complete disregard for own safety and without anyone's knowledge, set out to do this difficult task. He repeated this performance many times, thus providing inspiration and courage to other members of the company.
