Citation
On 21 October 1947, Jemadar Madho Singh was with a convoy, which was ambushed on route to Poonch. It suffered 14 casualties, seven killed and seven wounded. The enemy tried to occupy all dominating positions. Jemadar Madho Singh, with Lance Naik Nain Singh and Sepoy Mangal Singh and one LMG, rushed with complete disregard for his personal safety across an open stretch of 600 yards under heavy enemy automatic fire and took up a very dominating feature from which he opened fire on the enemy. By opening fire on the enemy, Jemadar Madho Singh helped our troops to win the race for the dominating positions and to repulse three determined and successive attacks by the enemy. Throughout the battle, he showed courage and determination and fought with complete disregard for his personal safety.
