Citation

On 15 December 1948, Naik Loku Ram was attached to a company as medical NCO. At about 4 p.m. the enemy plastered the company position with medium gun shell fire. Within a short span of three hours more than 350 shells were hurled into the company position. No. 3830842 Sepoy Dharam Singh was hit in a slit trench and although he lost both arms and a leg he was alive and calling for help. Naik Loku Ram dashed forward to render first aid. While performing this humane task, Naik Loku Ram was himself exposed to enemy shelling and twice wounded in the face but he refused to leave his dying comrade. In full view of enemy artillery observation posts, he lifted his wounded comrade and brought him to a place of safety.
