Citation
Subedar Laxman Salunke was second in command of a company of a Maratha regiment, which was assigned the task of capturing an area in Jhaman on 18 September 1965. When the enemy pinned his company down with heavy machine gun and small arms fire, Subedar Salunke was ordered to use a reserve platoon and wipe out the enemy.
He rallied his men and led them to charge the enemy. They killed 16 of the enemy and took nine as prisoners. The others fled. This enabled the battalion to capture the objective.
