Citation

On 11 February 1948, Lance Naik Ladhu Ram of 1 Grenadiers was Bren group commander covering the rifle group, which had orders to occupy a feature. The rifle group under Naik Birbal Ram was pinned down by heavy automatic fire, about 200 yards from where Lance Naik Ladhu Ram was. He at once took up his gun and charged the enemy position firing from the hip. He was grievously wounded and fell down. He again got up and charged the enemy, firing his last magazine

He remained in exposed position for over two hours and when Naik Birbal Ram went to rescue him, he said, "Don't worry about me. Get hold of the gun. Today is the chance to kill the enemy." Then he died.

His brave act will long be remembered by his comrades and will be a source of inspiration and an example.
