Citation

On 23 June 1948, the enemy attacked the MMG picquet of Lance Naik A B A Kiratkude with browning machine guns and 3" mortars. But the brave NCO broke the enemy attack by continuously firing from his MMG. The enemy even suffered eleven casualties. Again on 29 June 1948, the enemy tried to attack a subsidiary picquet but Lance Naik Kiratkude repulsed the attack by putting up a fight against all odds. When his gun stopped for changing the lock, he immediately moved to another bunker and in the process was wounded by the enemy firing. Though bleeding, he refused to go back to safety and kept firing from his gun.

Throughout the engagement with the enemy, Lance Naik A B A Kiratkude displayed high skill at his weapon and showed dogged determination, courage and devotion of duty to the highest order.
