Citation

Second Lieutenant Kanwarjit Singh was commanding a troop of Scinde Horse in the Shakargarh Sector. On 12 December 1971, the squadron was ordered to deploy opposite the Chakra crossing near the river Bein to make contact with the enemy holding the crossing. Second Lieutenant Kanwarjit Singh closed with the enemy positions despite stiff opposition and accurate anti-tank and artillery fire. In the fight he manoeuvred and handled his troop effectively and thus enabled the rest of the squadron to locate and engage the enemy inflicting considerable damage. He personally engaged and knocked out two enemy emplacements and a tank missile launching site. While covering the extrication of other elements of the squadron, his tank became the target of concentrated enemy fire.

Undaunted, he remained in the open cupola of his tank directing the extrication and correcting the fire of his own tank when he was mortally wounded.
