Vir Chakra (VrC)

As a flight commander, Squadron Leader R.S. Kalayaniwala took a leading part in most of the sorties carried out in the Northern Sector doing a total of 60 hours of operational flying prior to the advent of winter conditions over the Kashmir Valley. He set a high standard in precision bombing and his attacks on enemy picquets on the high hills near Zojila Pass prior to the ground attacks were most valuable. One attack in particular near Gumri enabled our troops to breakthrough to Drass.
