Vir Chakra (VrC)

Havildar Pandurang Kakfale was deployed in Sri Lanka as part of Indian Peace Keeping Force. He was a Section Commander in the assaulting Company, which was assigned the task of capturing Maruthnamadam town on 12 October 1987. The company met with very strong opposition, and the Non-Commissioned Officer was seriously wounded. Unmindful of his wound, he kept leading his section, and personally destroyed a bunker, silencing the militants' machine gun. In the process, he was mortally hit by a burst and gave his life in the highest traditions of the Army

Havildar Pandurang Kakfale displayed conspicuous bravery and devotion beyond the call of duty.
