Vir Chakra (VrC)

Sepoy Machindar Kadu was Bren Gun No. 1 during the attack by 3 (Para) Maratha Light Infantry on the enemy stronghold at Pathrari on 1 February 1948. During the assault, he was injured in the right arm and on his chin. Without telling anyone of his injury the continued to maintain sustained fire from his Bren gun. Soon he was shot in the thigh also. His commander saw his injuries and asked him to withdraw. He refused to do so till the objective was captured and then fell unconscious. His total disregard for his injuries and personal safety, devotion to duty and bravery were most praiseworthy.
