Citation
On 7 November 1947, Dafadar Jage Ram of 7 Light Cavalry was in command of a rifle troop which together with an armoured car troop, was operating as a deep encircling patrol in the area Srinagar-Sumbal-Shadipur-Shaletang. The patrol met with stiff resistance at Shaletang. Dismounting his troops from the trucks, he engaged the enemy personally, siting each of his three LMGs. He continually exposed himself to enemy fire while moving from one section post to the other.
His cool and decisive leadership saved his troop from suffering casualties and at the same time forced the enemy to withdraw in disorder straight into the destructive fire of the armoured cars, thereby incurring very heavy casualties.
He then, regardless of the danger to his life, personally led the assault on an enemy position and over-ran it, capturing its LMG intact.
