Awardee: Harbir Singh VrC
Citation
In December 1971, Dafadar Harbir Singh was the commander of the leading tank of the troop of an armoured delivery regiment, which was sent to Longewala in the Rajasthan Sector to blunt the thrust of a large armoured enemy column. Incomplete disregard for his safety, he closed in on enemy tanks and opened accurate and intense fire, knocking out two tanks. His tank was, however, hit by enemy fire as a result of which he died. In this action, Dafadar Harbir Singh displayed gallantry and determination of a high order.
