Megdan Gurung was commanding a platoon of Gorkha Rifles during a raid on an enemy post in Rajasthan Sector. During the attack, the enemy brought down intense artillery fire on the forming-up place, thereby interfering with the assault. Subedar Megdan Gurung, with complete disregard for his personal safety, advanced towards the flanks of the enemy, thereby unnerving him and causing him to run away from his post.

In this action, Subedar Megdan Gurung displayed courage, initiative and determination of a high order.
