Vir Chakra (VrC)

Lance Naik Hasta Bahadur Gurung was in command of a detached section at Lambola in NEFA. On 24 October 1962, the Chinese attacked his post in overwhelming numbers and though he had only four riflemen with him at that time, he fought back tenaciously. When his LMG No. 1 was lulled, Lance Naik Gurung took the gun himself and engaged the enemy in spite of the fact that he had sustained multiple bullet injuries. He continued his fight till all his men were killed and he himself was captured. Later he managed to escape from enemy custody 

The fighting spirit, leadership and courage displayed by Lance Naik Hasta Bahadur Gurung were of a high order.
