KrishnaYeknath Gurao was the commander of a medium machine gun section of Maratha Light Infantry, which had established a roadblock in an area in the Eastern Sector. The enemy attacked this position in strength on 10 December 1971. Havildar Krishna Gurao brought down heavy and accurate fire and thus broke up the enemy attack. Later, the enemy regrouped and attacked from a direction not covered by his medium machine gun. Havildar Krishna Gurao, with complete disregard for safety, redeployed his gun in the open and broke up the second assault, killing 77 of the enemy.

Throughout this action, Havildar Krishna Gurao displayed gallantry, initiative and devotion to duty of a high order.
