Vir Chakra (VrC)

On 15 November 1965, Major Parnjit Singh Grewal was leading a patrol in Rajasthan. Suddenly the enemy, who had encroached in that area, started firing with mortars and machine guns. He made his troops observe silence during the night and next morning personally led an assault on the enemy. Although wounded in the chest, he continued to direct the operation until he was evacuated, by which time the major portion of the objective had been cleared of enemy infiltrators.

In this action, Major Grewal displayed exemplary courage and leadership of a high order.
