Vir Chakra (VrC)

On 17 November 1965, Second Lieutenant Gopal Krishan was commanding a company of a battalion, which was ordered to clear an area in Rajasthan where the enemy had intruded after the cease-fire. After marching for the whole night, Second Lieutenant Gopal Krishan's company and another company started assaulting the enemy position. Although severely wounded, he continued to lead his company in the face of heavy enemy small arms and automatic fire until the objective was cleared of intruders. In this action, Second Lieutenant Gopal Krishan displayed courage and leadership of a high order.
