Vir Chakra (VrC)

Flight Lieutenant Gopal Krishna Garud was a navigator in a photo reconnaissance squadron in September 1965. Photo reconnaissance flights are fraught with danger, as these have invariably to be flown unescorted in broad daylight.

During the operations against Pakistan he always volunteered for the most difficult missions and brought back valuable information, which contributed, to a large extent towards the planning and successful execution of operations.

Throughout, Flight Lieutenant Garud displayed exemplary courage and professional skill of a high order.
