Vir Chakra (VrC)

Squadron Leader Daniel Rajkumar Duraisami was posted to No. 109 Helicopter Unit. He had operated from Jaffna Peninsula from the beginning of the operations in support of the Indian Peace Keeping Force. On the night of 11 October 1987, Squadron Leader Duraisami was Captain of an aircraft formation detailed for special mission. He carried out three successful missions for landing troops in a helipad, which was totally surrounded by Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam elements. The helicopter came under adverse fire and was extensively damaged. Undaunted Squadron Leader Duraisami assessed the damage and flew the helicopter back to base.

Squadron Leader D.R. Duraisami showed conspicuous gallantry in the face of hostile ground firing and saved valuable aircraft.
