Citation
On 20April1948, during an attack on a hill feature north of the river Jhelum, Lance Naik Dhansi Ram was section commander of a platoon of 4 Kumaon Regiment. The platoon was given the task of protecting the right flank. While they were advancing, they came under heavy enemy fire. Lance Naik. Dhansi Ram's section suffered the heaviest casualties i.e. his whole rifle group was wounded. This heavy loss infuriated him. He, by now, spotted the enemy, firing from a bunker at a distance of about 50 yards. With his remaining two riflemen from the Bren group, he crawled as near as five yards to the enemy bunker and threw two grenades inside, killing three of the enemy. The remaining two tried to run away but were bayoneted by Lance Naik Dhansi Ram.
