Sepoy Kolli John Christapher was serving with a battalion of Madras Regiment during its attack on an enemy position in the Eastern Sector. After the assault had commenced, Sepoy Christapher's platoon was held up due to heavy and accurate fire from a medium machine gun of the enemy, which was entrenched behind a wall. Sepoy Christapher, in complete disregard for his safety, volunteered to silence the machine gun. He dashed through the only opening in the wall, threw a grenade into the enemy trench and then jumped into the trench. While fighting in the trench, he made the supreme sacrifice.

In this action, Sepoy Kolli John Christapher displayed gallantry, determination and devotion to duty of a high order.
