Vir Chakra (VrC)

On 19 September 1965, Major Man Mohan Chopra was with a squadron supporting an infantry attack on enemy stronghold at Chathanwala. Some of our tanks including the tank of Major Chopra got bogged down in deceptive terrain. The enemy I brought down heavy artillery and mortar fire on these tanks. Undaunted, Major Chopra held his ground and successfully extricated three tanks. While doing so, he was severely wounded when an enemy mortar shell fell on his tank. He later succumbed to his injuries. Throughout, Major Man Mohan Chopra displayed courage and determination of a high order.
