On 25 February 1948, Havildar Chandri Chand was in command of a platoon, which was part of a force ordered to capture Dhindheka village. He rushed up with his men and charged the enemy. In the melee, he saw one of his light machine gunner lying wounded unable to move. He charged up personally and bayoneting two enemy soldiers, recovered both-the wounded men and the weapon.
On 14 March 1948, advancing towards Jhangar Havildar Chandri Chand was in command of a platoon, which had been ordered to capture an objective. He came under heavy enemy fire, which threatened to check his advance. With a few men with him, he worked his way to the enemy from a flank and charged the enemy with such fury that the enemy had to withdraw.
In both actions, Havildar Chandri Chand displayed supreme cold courage and was a fine example to his men.
