Vir Chakra (VrC)

While clearing an enemy post in the Eastern Sector, Rifleman Chagan Singh's platoon came under intense shelling and heavy small arms fire. When about twenty-five yards short of the enemy position, he spotted an enemy 106-mm recoilless gun inside a bunker. Although wounded, he crawled up to the bunker. In the process, he received another light machine gun burst but he destroyed the enemy bunker with hand grenades before succumbing to his injuries.

In this action, Rifleman Chagan Singh exhibited gallantry and determination of a high order.
