Vir Chakra (VrC)

Guardsman Brij Lal was the wireless operator with a platoon of Brigade of Guards, which was assigned the task of clearing an enemy patrol entrenched in its patrol base in the Sialkot Sector. As the platoon was closing in, a medium machine gun opened up killing three other ranks. Guardsman Brij Lal, in complete disregard for his safety, charged the machine gun post, firing his sten gun from the hip and killed one of the enemy soldiers manning the machine gun. He was, however, hit by a burst of machine gun fire as a result of which he was killed. 

In this action Guardsman Brij Lai displayed gallantry, determination and devotion to duty of a high order.
