Citation
During the operations against Pakistan in December 1971, Lieutenant Colonel Amarjeet Singh Brar, who was commanding a battalion of Rajputana Rifles, was given the task of capturing an important enemy position in the Eastern Sector. Against heavy odds the attack was successfully carried out and the position held against fierce enemy counter-attacks. On 6 December, the battalion surprised the enemy and drew out all their troops, enabling the neighbouring formation to occupy that position without firing a single round. Again, on 9 December, the battalion captured the formidable Mynamati defences and held on against fierce enemy counter-attacks supported by tanks.
Throughout, Lieutenant Colonel Brar displayed gallantry, leadership and devotion to duty of a high order.
