Citation

Sepoy Boota Singh was with a company of a battalion of Sikh Light Infantry which was deployed in an area in the Western Sector. The company after capturing an area was in the process of reorganisation when the enemy launched a counter-attack supported by artillery and mortar fire. Sepoy Boota Singh noticed two enemy soldiers at close quarters. With complete disregard for his safety, he came out of his trench and started firing from the hip. He shot one of the enemy soldiers and bayoneted the other to death. Seeing this gallant action, other men of his section came out of the trenches and charged at the assaulting enemy causing heavy casualties on the enemy and breaking up the assault.

In this action, Sepoy Boota Singh displayed gallantry, determination and devotion to duty of a high order.
