Vir Chakra (VrC)

Vikram Kumar Anand was commanding a rifle company of Sikh Light Infantry during the operations in the Shakargarh Sector. On the morning of 14 December 1971, his company was placed under command of a cavalry regiment, which was assigned the task of capturing an enemy position. Despite continuous enemy small arms, tank and artillery fire, Major Anand inspired his company to press home the attack and after heavy fighting cleared the enemy position. Under his able leadership, the company repulsed repeated counter-attacks by the enemy.

Throughout, Major Anand displayed gallantry and leadership of a high order.
