The Platoon was attacked by the enemy numbering around 700 men. The enemy attacked the platoon in five waves. Jemadar Ami Singh realised the gravity of the situation and inspired his men to fight on till the last man and last round which they did and inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy. After two hours of fighting most of his men including himself were seriously wounded. But he refused to leave his platoon and went on encouraging his men to fight on. At one time, there were only men including himself left in his Platoon. He had received two wounds but he kept on throwing hand grenades on the enemy and successfully repulsed the enemy efforts to take his platoon position.
Jemadar Ami Singh displayed qualities of leadership, courage and devotion of duty of the highest order. It was mainly to his personal example that the remaining three men of his platoon were able to fight on till they were reinforced by a platoon of the 3rd Rajput.
