Vir Chakra (VrC)

During the operations against Pakistan in December 1971, Captain Dhan Singh Adhikari was serving with a battalion of Dogra Regiment. He was given the task of finding the exact layout of certain enemy defences in the Western Sector. Unmindful of his safety, he crawled close to the defences and obtained accurate information, which helped in planning of the assault against the enemy position. During the assault, his company was pinned down by two medium machine guns firing from the flank. He rushed to one of them and silenced it. This action resulted in the enemy leaving the post.

In these actions, Captain Adhikari displayed gallantry, determination and devotion to duty of a high order.
