Citation
On 26 April 1948 while 7 Sikh attacked a strong and dominating enemy position, Sepoy Sarup Singh, on his own, climbed a tree and gave effective sniping fire. The enemy had to take cover with the result that our men later charged the position, thus dislodging the enemy.
Again on 22 May, the unit was ordered to capture a hill feature. Sepoy Sarup Singh's platoon ran into an enemy ambush and came under heavy MMG and light automatic fire. In total disregard of his personal safety he evacuated a number of wounded comrades till he himself was wounded in the face and had to be evacuated.
