Vir Chakra (VrC)

As an excellent marksman, particularly with 84-mm rocket launcher, Havildar Joseph Anal Chang has been consistently performing against the enemy on the Line of Control. He was part of the unit 'Ghatak' team in August 1994 and volunteered for a fire assault operation on the Line of Control. He was assigned to command a rocket launcher detachment and he destroyed the enemy bunker No. 1 by firing from 50 metres of the enemy position. Again on 23 May 1995, he effectively engaged and silenced the enemy from a temporary position in the open despite his Rocket Launcher No. 2 being seriously wounded in the chest by an enemy splinter. Yet again on 28 May 1995 when his patrol was effectively engaged by the enemy, he personally rallied with light machine gun and two-inch mortar to extricate his patrol. On 6 June 1995, he destroyed the enemy Flag Area bunker during a firefight with the enemy on the Line of Control.
