Citation

Subedar Sita Ram was commanding a forward platoon of Grenadiers during the attack on Chakra in the Shakargarh Sector. This was well-fortified position held in strength by the enemy and covered by a minefield 800 yards in depth. During the formingup and the assault, the enemy brought down very heavy and accurate small arms and artillery fire. Undaunted by the intensity of enemy fire and the casualties among his men, Subedar Sita Ram led his men across the minefield and captured the objective after bitter fighting. Though seriously wounded, he refused to be evacuated. The enemy launched a determined counter attack and once again Subedar Sita Ram went from trench to trench inspiring his men. He was wounded again and died of injuries.

Throughout, Subedar Sita Ram displayed gallantry and leadership of a high order.
