Citation

On 11 February 1948, Captain MY Shete got the information that his company patrol was under heavy fire and running short of ammunition. He at once assembled about two sections from his position and rushed forward with two boxes of reserve ammunition. He detailed one section to hold the rear and went forward with the other through exposed countryside and under heavy automatic and mortar fire. He himself was pinned down and the slightest movement brought heavy fire from three directions.

For one hour, he held this portion. Meanwhile, two of his men were wounded but he managed to get the ammunition to the patrol and enabled it to retake the lost ground and recover the casualties. Captain Shete showed great skill in using his meagre reserves. Disregarding danger he placed himself close to the enemy for a long period in his determination to supply ammunition to his patrol. His utter disregard for enemy fire contributed greatly to the success of the operation.
