Citation

During the operations against Pakistan in December 1971, Flight Lieutenant Manjit Singh Sekhon was commanding a detachment of a frontline fighter squadron. He flew 14 missions at a low height in very difficult terrain of Jammu and Kashmir and caused extensive damage to several enemy bunkers, vehicles, guns, mortar position, POL and ammunition dumps. He carried out these missions in the face of heavy ground fire. He substantially contributed to the success of our ground forces in Kargil, Tithwal, Poonch, and Uri Sectors. He also ensured a high rate of serviceability of aircraft.

Throughout, Flight Lieutenant Sekhon displayed gallantry, skill and devotion to duty of a high order.
