Vir Chakra (VrC)

During the operations against Pakistan in December 1971, Captain Uday Parashuram Sathe was serving as an observation officer with a battalion of Kumaon Regiment which was given the task of capturing certain enemy held features in the Eastern Sector. In spite of heavy enemy fire, he moved about in the open directing the fire on own guns. As the battalion neared the objective and our own fire was lifted, he joined the attack with his party and neutralised a number of posts.

In this action Captain Sathe displayed gallantry, determination and devotion to duty of high order.
