Vir Chakra (VrC)

On 5 December 1971 the enemy attacked Longewala in the Rajasthan Sector with armour and infantry in overwhelming strength. Captain Prithvi Pal Singh Sangha of an AOP flight was ordered to be airborne to direct own tank and artillery fire against enemy tanks and troops concentration. Throughout, this action from 5 to 11 December with complete disregard for his personal safety, he spent most of the time carrying out airborne missions of observing enemy movements, sending back valuable information and directing attacks. 

In this action, Captain Sangha displayed gallantry, determination and devotion to duty of a high order.
