Vir Chakra (VrC)

Jemadar Rigzin Phunchok was commanding a post at Bhujang in Ladakh which was attacked by the Chinese on the night of 19 October 1962 and again the following day. The enemy far outnumbered our men at the post. Despite this alarming situation, Jemadar Phunchok by his inspiring leadership repulsed both the attacks and was thereby able to keep open the routes to other posts.

The tenacity and courage displayed by him in the face of enemy were in the best traditions of our Army.
