Vir Chakra (VrC)

On 16 December 1971, Havildar Raghbir Singh was part of platoon operating behind the enemy in the Ferozepur Sector. At midnight, the enemy rushed one platoon and two medium machine guns to reinforce his post, which was being attacked by our troops. The enemy platoon attacked the position of Havildar Raghbir Singh's section supported by machine guns, which were firing from a close range. With utter disregard for his safety, he charged one of the medium machine guns, bayoneted a crew, captured the gun and took an enemy soldier as prisoner. The other machine gun detachment fled in confusion.

In this action, Havildar Raghbir Singh displayed gallantry and determination of a high order.
