Citation
On the night of 21 October 1962, two of our post had fallen to the Chinese and it became necessary to evacuate an infantry section from another post across a lake in Ladakh. Lance Naik Raghavan left with two boats to bring back the personnel.
Despite enemy fire from the bank of the lake, Lance Naik Raghavan took the boats to the post. When they were returning, they came under heavy enemy fire and one of the boats sank. Lance Naik Raghavan was in the other boats about 100 yards ahead. Despite the continuous enemy fire and dark night, he turned round the rough lake and picked up three survivors.
In this action, Lance Naik Raghavan displayed courage and devotion to duty of a high order.
