Vir Chakra (VrC)

Subedar Lal Bahadur Pun was second-in-command of a rifle company of Gorkha Rifles which was ordered to capture an enemy position in an area in the Eastern Sector. The final 75 metres to the objective were without any cover. Subedar Pun volunteered to close up the flank of the enemy bunkers and threw smoke candles to lay a smoke screen. The direction of wind suddenly changed, thereby lessening the effect of the smoke. Realising the importance of an effective smokescreen, he crawled to a more advantageous location and threw another smoke candle. The resulting smokescreen helped in the capture of the enemy position.

In the action, Subedar Pun displayed commendable courage and initiative.
