Citation

On 2 December 1948, Sapper Laxman Powar was ordered, along with other seven men, to clear mines around a picquet to enable the advance of our troops. While clearing the mines, one of the men was accidentally caught in a dangerous area. Realising the danger, Sapper Laxrnan Powar, in complete disregard of his personal safety, rushed to the spot to save his comrade. He struggled for some time and pulled out his comrade safely. Unfortunately he himself got caught in the minefield. A mine exploded killing him.

Thus, he sacrificed his life to save the life of his comrade. His was a rare and outstanding example of self-sacrifice, bravery and extreme devotion to duty.
